Drama on stage at town’s oldest house

A Denbighshire town is once again looking forward to a special drama production in its oldest house.

Illyria Production company will be returning to Ruthin’s Nantclwyd Dref this Saturday the 24th of June, performing the Twelfth Night in the superb setting of the building’s historic garden, starting at 6.30pm.

‘It is quite a rare event to have an open air Shakespeare play in Ruthin, and Illyria have had fantastic reviews wherever they go. People can enjoy the atmosphere of Nantclwyd’s garden as well as bring along chairs and a picnic’ said Kate Harcus, committee member of the Friends of Nantclwyd y Dref

‘It takes a lot of work to put on such an event, so would encourage everyone to get tickets and support the event’ she added.

Illyria have performed annually at Nantclwyd y Dref now for a number of years. The earliest part of the house was built in 1435, and served a variety of purposes over the centuries before being restored by its current owner, Denbighshire County Council around 20 years ago. It is now a museum, with each room in the house styled in a different historical era, and the garden at the rear of the building with magnificent views of Ruthin and the Vale of Clwyd.

Also, next week is a concert with Machynlleth Male Voice Choir alongside Aled and Eleri Edwards on Friday 30th of June. The choir all come from the Bro Ddyfi area, and are conducted by Aled Myrddin and accompanied by Menna Griffiths. They have won at the National Eisteddfod in the past years, as well as winning the Male Category of S4C’s Cor Cymru. The choir visited Canada 4 years ago and have released a CD. Aled and Eleri Edwards live in the Llanymddyfri area with Eleri originally coming from the Llangernyw area and are renowned singers in their own right, with both having won the National Eisteddfod’s prestigious Blue Riband award in the past.

The Shakespeare play and Concert are part of the town’s long established festival which again this year lasts the week from the 24th of June until the 2nd of July, and culminates as always with the popular Top of Town event on Saturday the 1st of July.

Tickets for the Shakespeare play are £18 for Adults, £8 for Children and £42.00 for a family of 4, and are available at Siop Elfair (01824 702575) or on the door on the night.

Tickets for the concert are available at Siop Elfair (01824 702575) and are £15 each.
