About Gŵyl Rhuthun Festival
Gŵyl Rhuthun Festival is the largest Welsh language music and cultural festival in north east Wales, proudly rooted in the heart of Rhuthun since 1994.
The festival was founded following a cultural connection with Briec in Brittany, bringing together two Celtic communities through a shared love of language, music and heritage. That partnership sparked what would become an enduring tradition, a festival that continues to grow and evolve more than 30 years later.
For over three decades, the festival has grown and evolved into one of the most vibrant cultural events in north east Wales. Each year, we bring together local talent and visiting artists for a week-long programme of music, arts, performance, and activities for all ages, culminating in the much-loved Top Dre / Top of Town event in St Peter’s Square.

Our purpose
Our mission is simple: to celebrate, promote and protect Welsh language music and culture while bringing people together as a community.
We are passionate about creating a space where the Welsh language thrives – not only through music, but through shared experiences and creativity.
A festival built by the community
Gŵyl Rhuthun Festival is run entirely by volunteers. Every performance, event and detail is made possible by a dedicated group of individuals who give their time and energy to ensure the festival returns year after year.
This community spirit is what makes the festival truly special. It belongs to the people of Rhuthun and beyond – to everyone who attends, performs, supports and takes part.
Sustainability
As a not-for-profit festival, our priority is to remain accessible while ensuring the festival’s future. We are supported through a combination of grants and sponsorship, but the majority of our funding comes directly from ticket sales at the gates. We work hard to keep prices as low as possible so that everyone can enjoy the festival, while also safeguarding its long-term sustainability.
