For over 30 years, Gŵyl Rhuthun Festival has been at the heart of our community. A vibrant celebration of Welsh language music, culture and connection.
Founded in 1994 following a cultural link with our twin town of Briec in Brittany, the festival has grown into one of the most established cultural events in north east Wales. We bring people together each year for a week of unforgettable experiences, from live music and performances, to workshops, exhibitions and family activities - the festival showcases the very best of Welsh creativity.
Gŵyl Rhuthun Festival is made possible by a dedicated team of volunteers who give their time and skills to bring the community together and celebrate.

Myth: The festival is fully funded by grants and taxes, so we don't need to pay.
Fact: Gŵyl Rhuthun Festival costs over £20,000 to deliver each year.
It’s not paid by taxes and while we do receive some sponsorship and grant funding, most of our income comes directly from ticket sales at the gate. Your support keeps the festival going, thank you.
Myth: The festival is run by the council.
Fact: We are an independent, volunteer-led organisation.
Although we are supported by Denbighshire County Council and Rhuthun Town Council, the festival itself is organised entirely by a dedicated team of unpaid volunteers.
Myth: Ticket prices are too high.
Fact: We work hard to keep prices as low as possible.
At £7 for adults, Top Dre / Top of Town is significantly cheaper than similar festivals across Wales, which often cost £25–£30 a ticket. Our pricing helps keep the festival accessible; while ensuring it can return year after year.
Myth: The entry rules and gate checks are unnecessary.
Fact: Our gate teams and security are there to keep Gŵyl Rhuthun a safe space for everyone. Our no-glass policy helps prevent nasty accidents, and enforcing Challenge 25 keeps us compliant with the law. Thank you for working with our security team!
